Despite the triple-digit temps Los Angeles has to look forward to next week, fall is in the air. Every year, around mid-August, the light changes and begins to take on a certain quality that, to me, signifies autumn.
It makes me want to dress in tweeds and wools and glen-plaids. But the reality, of course, is that I'll be dressing in cropped pants and camisoles until, oh, Halloween.
Which is why I was so happy to find these on Old Navy's website:
First chance I get, I'm off to try them on in person, since ON's sizing has been so wonky lately I can't rely on my usual size :(
UPDATE: Scratch those off the wish list, because they have been purchased and they are great! And on sale!!
And of course, it wouldn't be a wish list without a pair or two of shoes. Continuing my current obsession with Earth Shoes, here's the hot-off-the-presses Echelon style:
Of course all three would be nice to have, but that red - oh, that red!
Despite my affection for stylish skirts and, of course, all sorts of Mary Janes, my absolute favorite thing to wear is cropped pants with sneakers. It's effortless, it's comfortable, and it takes me where I need to go - which on the weekend might be a hike or the beach. During the workweek, generally that means I'm ready to roughhouse with any of the seven or so dogs that I share my workspace with - risky business in a skirt!
Yeah, yeah, I know - they're a giant evil megacorporation and all*, but right now Gap has a ton of new pants for fall that I love. And both on their website and in their Pasadena store, these pants are all paired with sneakers - mostly Converse or Vans, two of my absolute favorites.
Of course, none of these are on sale yet, and I have a "never pay full price at Gap" policy. The minute they're marked down, though, it's shopping time!
*They're also a homegrown SF company, and I have a soft spot for this. Besides that, they make pants that fit shorty me so perfectly that I'd probably have to shop there even if they were truly as evil as, say, this guy.
A few months back, I bought a couple of skirts from Bossa Nova Baby of Portland, OR. It took me a while to get my act together and find a cotton slip* to wear under them - but yesterday one finally arrived, this morning I hemmed it for shorty me, and voila! Here's what I'm wearing today:
Tomorrow I'll be wearing this one:
*Why cotton, you ask? Because my skin can't stand being next to synthetics of any kind. By doing a search for "cotton slip" or "vintage slip" on eBay, they're pretty easy to come by, and some even have cute lace hems or embroidery.
In other skirt news, I'm currently enamored with just about everything Made with Love by Hannah. I'm on a spending freeze for the moment, but once the freeze is lifted, I hope to be the owner of a couple of these:
I am in love with the T-shirts made and sold by Lisa Solomon over at Underdog Ink. I've already purchased two, and would buy one in every style if money were no object!
