Of course I want some new Earth Shoes and Giraudons and Keens and all that, but what I really want, on a purely emotional level, are some clunky old-school Doc Martens with the clownish round toe.
At least I think that's the ones - if so, they can be found via my new dealer Online Shoes. All I ever see in the stores are the ones with the sleeker toe - those, I don't like so much. But that round toe is tempting me!
I haven't owned a pair of Docs in years. Come to think of it, they never really were all that - you had to break them in, as I recall. So maybe it's just a nostalgia thing for me. But there was a time when I swore by them, when I spent long hours during the day waitressing and long hours during the night watching bands in standing-room-only clubs.
Perhaps it's not new shoes that I want at all, it's to be a twentysomething waitress at Millie's* again, flouncing about in vintage aprons and dresses with nary a care in the world.
Yeah. That would be nice.
*Yes, it's true - although neither a rock star nor a hipster, I waitressed at the infamous Millie's of Silver Lake.
