Followers of this here blog know that I've been on the hunt for some boots for quite a while. Indecision, unseasonably warm Southern California weather, and lack of disposable income have kind of put the actual acquisition process on hold.
Waiting is sometimes a good thing, though, because during that waiting period I managed to find these - on sale - on the Sundance Catalog website. They're by Camper, from - gasp, the horror! - last season, and available in my size. I just need for them to remain in stock until next payday, and with luck, they will be mine.
Although one of my favorite garments, a fantastic skirt with floral embroidery embellished with buttons, is from there, I don't shop regularly at J. Jill. For one thing, their salespeople are insufferable - pushy, follow-me-around-making-comments types that are almost enough to make me turn violent. For another, their prices are rather high. And for another, the place makes me feel downright middle-aged.
But. Every now and then they hit on something I really like, such as these fantastic boots. These may be The One. I'm planning to hold out for a sale, but it's going to be hard.
Everything,
that is, except the price tag, which is high enough that there really
is not much likelihood that any of them will ever be mine.
*sigh*
Not!
It may be pushing 100 degrees outside, but I'm sitting here next to my trusty A/C, dreaming of the occasion to wear sweaters. I know that someday sweater weather will come - and it won't be soon enough.
Banana Republic is full of cute sweaters right now, mostly of the lightweight merino
variety.
My favorite!
And they seem to have a few styles that stray from the super-fitted
look that seems to be everywhere right now. So all they have to do is
have a sale, and I may add a few to my wardrobe.
And Gap seems to be stocking some fairly reasonably priced cashmere. Since my one and only cashmere sweater is about to fall to pieces, I'd consider buying this one.
And speaking of Gap - what's up with the licensed-and-trademarked Audrey Hepburn pants?? I love Audrey - looooooove her - but considering that her body type is the opposite of, oh, about 99.9% of the American population, I'm not sure that "skinny" Audrey capris will be a huge seller. I mean, just thinking about it makes me feel like a big ol' clumsy elephant. They couldn't possibly look good on someone who is under 5'5" and over 100 pounds, now, could they??
Let me get back to you on that one. Just as soon as I work up the nerve to try some on.
How does it go - first anger, then denial, then finally acceptance? Yeah, something like that.
I'm not talking about grief; well, maybe on some tiny level I am. I'm talking about Chuck Taylors.
I love them. Loooooove them. But I have finally accepted that they do not love me back; narrow, flat shoes with no arch support are not a good match for wide, high-arched feet. The last time I wore mine, for a walk around the Venice Canals, I ended up with such severe arch pain that it kept me awake at night. For THREE NIGHTS.
I realize there's a fine line between fashion and stupidity, and clearly I have crossed the line - for the final time. Those Chucks have been banished to my local thrift store, and I've been spending my days in orthopedic shoes Danskos and Earth and Keens, and all's been well.
Except. Except, I miss my Chucks, particularly when paired with cropped pants. It occurred to me, though, that all may not be lost - thanks to the other shoe queen, I've heard good things about Loose Fit Chuck Taylors.
I'll be springing for them soon. Fifty smackers is kind of a lot for a pair of Chucks, but look at it this way - I'm not buying a pair of shoes, I'm buying acceptance.
I've been looking for a charcoal grey cable-knit cardigan for, oh, three years now? Seems simple enough, but until yesterday, I haven't seen one.
Once again, Old Navy comes through - with this cable knit cardi that I will be buying the moment it goes on sale!
You know, Old Navy has really been getting it right recently. Unlike, say, Gap, where everything is beginning to look like it belongs in Forever 21... What's up with the ultra-long, ultra-fitted-around-the-torso tops, anyway?
UPDATE: I admit it - I didn't wait for the cardi to go on sale. I tried it on, it was perfect, and the credit card was out before I could say "that was worth waiting three years for." Really, I mean it - it won't happen again.
Favorite Things Friday is taking a Fall Semester hiatus, but plans to be back in, oh, November. If all goes well, that's another way of saying "after I'm finished with my master's."
But? Remember those cherry shoes? They're finally available, for 159 smackeroos, right here. I plan on saving up!
Despite the triple-digit temps Los Angeles has to look forward to next week, fall is in the air. Every year, around mid-August, the light changes and begins to take on a certain quality that, to me, signifies autumn.
It makes me want to dress in tweeds and wools and glen-plaids. But the reality, of course, is that I'll be dressing in cropped pants and camisoles until, oh, Halloween.
Which is why I was so happy to find these on Old Navy's website:
First chance I get, I'm off to try them on in person, since ON's sizing has been so wonky lately I can't rely on my usual size :(
UPDATE: Scratch those off the wish list, because they have been purchased and they are great! And on sale!!
And of course, it wouldn't be a wish list without a pair or two of shoes. Continuing my current obsession with Earth Shoes, here's the hot-off-the-presses Echelon style:
Of course all three would be nice to have, but that red - oh, that red!
I'm planning to keep my shopping to a minimum in the near future - window shopping there will be lots of, to be sure, but actual purchasing not so much. That being said, I have three things on my fall wish list. And what do you know, two of them are shoes!
Having recently discovered the joy of Earth Shoes, I found these on the Sierra Trading Post website. I'm planning to get both red and brown.
UPDATE: Done and done! Sierra Trading Post rocks. Nearly as fast as other online shoe retailers, but with bargain prices.
The other thing I want - well, this is something I actually need - is a new jacket, as everything in my closet is getting a little bit threadbare. I'm thinking of this corduroy one from Lands End.
While I really do like the green, I think I'll err on the side of practicality and get either black or brown.
